100 Years of Bauhaus: Sequence of German Architecture

Germany

The Story

As the birthplace of modern design education, Bauhaus marked the beginning of modernist architecture, which soon spread across the world and became universally recognized.

This journey to Germany, where both Bauhaus and modernist architecture first emerged, is not only a pilgrimage but also a search for the origin, a way to explore the everlasting legacy and living memory of Bauhaus in German architecture today. Starting from Berlin and traveling through Dresden, Dessau, Wolfsburg, and Hamburg, this journey moves between history and the contemporary, industry and nature, culture and art.

Traveling across 5 cities and more than 30 landmark works, the itinerary showcases the masters of twentieth-century modernism, including works of Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, and Hans Scharoun. It also highlights works of today’s leading architects, featuring 6 Pritzker Prize laureates such as Herzog de Meuron, David Chipperfield, Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, and Frank Gehry.
