The Form of Luz: the Odyssey of Spanish Architecture toward Modernity

Spain

The Story

Southern Spain, long one of the country’s most economically challenged regions, reveals perhaps the most enchanting side of Spanish architecture. Here, light itself, a divine gift to this land, becomes the central medium of design and inspiration.

This itinerary focuses exclusively on modern and contemporary architecture in southern Spain, featuring 21 projects from Mallorca to Granada and Seville, all examined through the lens of light. Among them are 4 UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Alhambra, which astonished the world and inspired generations of architects; the monumental Great Mezquita of Córdoba; the Roman Theater of Mérida on the Spanish-Portuguese border; and Catedral de Santa María Sevilla, the third-largest cathedral in the world.
