Essence of Traditional Chinese Architecture for Sacrifice

Beijing, Henan, Shandong

The Story

China is a country of etiquette with a system of rituals that is arguably the most important political system in the country. Sacrifice is one of the most important elements of this system. This tour will help you understand the differences between traditional Chinese rituals and religion. You will visit the Altar of Heaven, the Altar of Earth, and the Altar of the Gods of Sheji, where natural spirits are worshiped. Then, you will go to the Temple of Heaven and the Temple of Confucius, where ancestral figures are worshiped. Finally, you will visit two of the most important sites where the Five Mountains were worshiped. The oldest pagoda in China and the most peculiar ancient Chinese astronomical observatory are also on the itinerary.

The journey is mysterious, solemn, and highly ritualized. This is an excellent opportunity for culture and art enthusiasts to gain an in-depth understanding of ancient Chinese ritual culture and for architects to learn to differentiate the functional nature of ancient Chinese buildings and further understand all aspects of ancient Chinese architecture.
