Frank Lloyd Wright: God Manifested in Nature
USA
The Story
Frank Lloyd Wright is universally acclaimed as one of the four foundational geniuses of modern architecture. He was an heir to both the American Chicago School and the European Arts and Crafts Movement, the founder of the Prairie School, the theorist behind Organic Architecture and Broadacre City, and the creator of the iconic Usonian home.
His dictum, “God is manifest in the natural world,” distilled his Unitarian beliefs into an architectural creed. Through his philosophy of Organic Architecture, he redefined the relationship between human dwelling and the natural environment—a vision perfectly realized in his masterpiece, Fallingwater.
This journey spans the continent, from the serene countryside of Wisconsin to the vast deserts of Arizona. We will experience his two personal kingdoms—the craft utopias of Taliesin East and West, conceived to revive ancient traditions; behold the unparalleled beauty of Fallingwater at Bear Run; and encounter the fantastical elegance of the Johnson & Son Headquarters.
We will trace the lineage of Wright’s uniquely American architecture, rooted in the tradition of Richardson and Sullivan, and follow in the footsteps of America’s foremost architect—retracing a life as unyielding, legendary, and breathtaking as the buildings he left behind.
